Zero-Click Search

A zero-click search is a search query that gets fully answered directly on the search engine results page itself, without the user needing to click through to any website. This commonly happens through featured snippets, knowledge panels, direct answer boxes, or, increasingly, AI-generated overviews.

Zero-click searches have grown significantly in recent years, raising real concerns for publishers and businesses about declining organic click-through rates, even for pages that technically rank at the top of results.

Businesses can partially offset zero-click impact by optimizing specifically for featured snippet and AI overview visibility (since brand exposure still occurs even without a click), and by focusing content strategy on queries where users genuinely need to visit a site to complete an action, rather than purely informational lookups.

We factor zero-click trends into keyword prioritization within our content strategy work.
