XML Sitemap

An XML sitemap is a structured file that lists the important pages on a website, along with metadata like when each page was last updated. It’s designed to be read by search engine crawlers, not human visitors, and helps ensure that a site’s pages are efficiently discovered and crawled.

While an XML sitemap doesn’t guarantee a page will be indexed, it significantly improves the odds, especially for larger sites, newer sites, or pages that are difficult to discover through normal internal linking alone.

Keeping an XML sitemap clean — free of broken links, redirects, or non-indexable pages — is an important technical SEO maintenance task, since a cluttered sitemap can waste crawl budget and confuse search engines about which pages actually matter.

Sitemap health is checked as a standard part of every SEO audit we run.
