Thin content refers to pages that offer little real value, depth, or originality — often characterized by very short word counts, auto-generated text, or content that simply rehashes what’s already widely available elsewhere without adding anything new.
Google’s Helpful Content systems specifically target sites with a pattern of thin content, and it can drag down the ranking potential of an entire domain, not just the individual thin pages themselves.
Fixing thin content usually means either substantially expanding and improving the page to genuinely serve the search intent behind it, consolidating several thin pages into one comprehensive resource, or removing/noindexing pages that don’t serve a real purpose.
Identifying and prioritizing thin content fixes is a standard part of our content strategy audits.
