Indexing is the process by which a search engine stores and organizes information about a webpage after crawling it, making that page eligible to be retrieved and displayed in relevant search results.
A page can be crawled without ultimately being indexed, if a search engine determines it’s low-quality, duplicate, or otherwise not worth including in its index, which is why crawling and indexing, while related, are distinct concepts.
Checking a page’s indexing status directly through Google Search Console’s URL Inspection tool is the most reliable way to confirm whether a specific page has actually been indexed and is eligible to rank.
Indexing status monitoring is a standard part of our SEO Audits & Reporting service.
