Content Pruning

Content pruning is the practice of identifying and removing, consolidating, or updating underperforming, outdated, or low-value content on a website, based on the principle that low-quality content can drag down a site’s overall perceived quality.

Rather than simply deleting underperforming pages outright, effective content pruning typically involves first evaluating whether a page should be improved and updated, consolidated with similar content, or genuinely removed and redirected.

Content pruning has become increasingly important following algorithm updates specifically targeting sitewide content quality signals, where a pattern of thin or outdated content can suppress the ranking potential of an entire domain.
