Content Freshness

Content freshness refers to how recently a page’s content has been updated or published. For certain types of queries — particularly time-sensitive topics like news, product comparisons, or anything tied to changing information — search engines give meaningful weight to how current a page is, a concept sometimes called “Query Deserves Freshness.”

Not every topic benefits equally from constant updates; a genuinely evergreen explainer might need only occasional revisions, while a “best tools of [year]” article needs regular refreshing to stay competitive.

Effective content freshness strategy means regularly auditing existing content, updating statistics and examples, removing outdated information, and republishing with a clear updated date where genuinely warranted — not just changing the date without meaningful updates.

Content refresh planning is built into our ongoing SEO Content Strategy engagements.
